Owens Corning opens new China Composites Center

Owens Corning, has announced that it will open its China Composites Center in Shanghai, China, in early 2012, thus providing customers locally with customized solutions. The centre will have a staff of talented scientists and engineers using state-of-the-art facilities.

Global manufacturer of glass fiber reinforcements for composite systems and residential and commercial building materials, Owens Corning, has announced that it will open its China Composites Center in Shanghai, China, in early 2012.
“Our new China Composites Center in Shanghai demonstrates our commitment to provide customers locally with customized solutions,” said Owens Corning vice president of Innovations for the Composite Solutions Business, Dr. Ashish Diwanji. “We will partner with our customers in the region to grow the use of composites materials in existing and new applications.”
The centre will have a staff of talented scientists and engineers using state-of-the-art facilities to focus on customer activities including composite prototyping, materials testing, designing with composites, technical support and developing new solutions, particularly in applications for renewable energy, residential and commercial building and vehicle components.
The team will be part of an integrated global network of scientists and engineers connected to the company’s innovation sites around the world in Granville, US; Chambery, France; Zele, Belgium; Apeldoorn, Netherlands; and Ibaraki, Japan. Having a facility in Shanghai ensures deep understanding of local needs and trends. The team will also partner with local universities and institutes specializing in material science, chemistry, characterization and processing.
Group President of the Composite Solutions Business Arnaud Genis added, “Owens Corning is committed to establishing a local presence to grow composites applications and accelerate the development of the Chinese composites industry. Our proximity to customers will lead to co-developing opportunities with them.”
