US glass and plastic container maker Owens-Illinois Inc. said that fourth-quarter earnings fell, due to higher energy costs, unfavourable foreign exchange rates and higher interest rates. The company reported fourth quarter earnings before unusual items of 12 cents per diluted share, compared with earnings before extraordinary items of 24 cents per diluted share a year ago. Fourth-quarter net sales were US$ 1.33 billion compared with US$ 1.37 billion a year ago.
