Owens-Illinois Inc., the US-based maker of glass and plastic bottles, issued a fourth-quarter profit warning, saying earnings excluding items will be half the year-earlier“s 24 cents a share because of higher energy costs and the strong dollar. Owens-Illinois shares have been battered on fears that the company might face further lawsuits over its manufacture of asbestos insulation. The firm made the insulation until 1958 and has paid more than US$ 1 billion in claims.
