Italian glass maestro and glass artist Lino Tagliapietra received the 42nd Phoenix Award during a banquet held in Venice, Italy.
During the 42nd Phoenix Award banquet held in the Danieli Hotel in Venice, Italy, Lino Tagliapietra, Italian glass maestro and glass artist from Murano received the distinguished 2012 Phoenix Award.
In recognition of his contribution to the glass industry in the field of glass art, many of Lino’s family and close friends attended the Phoenix Award ceremony. Unlike many of the awards past winners Lino is not directly associated with large scale industrial glass production, but dedicated his life to exploring the artistic possibility of handmade glass and the teaching of some of the World’s most talented glass blowers and artists.
On receiving one of the glass industries most prestigious awards, presented by PAC Chairman Bob Chambers, Tagliapietra was surprised, honoured and humbled, and it was clear to see that the three generations of his family who attended the dinner were very proud of him.
During his acceptance speech Lino spoke about the pleasure and enjoyment in both sharing his skills and teaching others during his 67 years working with glass, and commented on the special friendships he had made over the many years.
Lino Tagliapietra joins a very distinguished list of recipients who have been recognized by the Phoenix Award Committee for their contributions to the areas of glass production, science, education and art.
