The Pilkington coating plant at Cowley Hill, will receive GBP million support from the council of St Helens, UK.
The council of St Helens, UK, has unanimously supported plans for a GBP 36 million coating plant at Pilkington the Cowley Hill Works, which will create 50 jobs. The facility will also protect existing jobs and help expand the firm’s apprentice programme.
Pilkington, part of Japan’s NSG Group, was recently awarded GBP 5 million from the Government’s Regional Growth Fund towards the project.
The coating line, which will be up and running from October 2012, will produce high performance, low emissivity glazing products to complement Pilkington’s K Glass, and solar control glass products.
These ranges are currently produced in Sweden and Germany, and therefore, the new facility will lead to reduced transport costs and help lower carbon emissions caused by shipping the glass.
