PPG Industries Inc. will pay USD 60 million to settle a lawsuit which claimed the company and other glassmakers conspired to overcharge for flat glass products. PPG denied the allegations, but said it settled to avoid the cost of litigation. PPG was the last of six defendants to settle the case filed in 1997 by auto body shops and window manufacturers. US District Judge Donetta Ambrose approved the settlement on 7 February 2006. Plaintiffs alleged that PPG and five other companies: Pilkington PLC; Libbey-Owens-Ford Co. of Toledo, Ohio; Guardian Industries Corp. of Auburn Hills, Michigan; AFG Industries Inc. of Kingsport, Tennesse; and Ford Motor Company of Detroit overcharged by USD 310 million between 1991 and 1995. The other defendants paid about USD 61 million to settle the cases in 2003 and 2004.
