Samsung is set to begin production of flexible AMOLED-displays later this quarter. The new panels will be 1.2 mm thinner than the existing solutions. (0.6 mm vs. 1.8 mm) The first panels, which will launch in Korean production, will be protected by stiff glass, while Samsung announced early prototypes that are used in bent and folded displays. Most likely in the near future, Samsung will show a thin panel thickness near 1 mm from the surface of the protective glass instead of plastic bend covers. The production of “a truly flexible display” is expected to be launched by 2014.
