Malaysia“s Samsung Corning Sdn Bhd (SCM) said it will invest US$ 70 million (RM 266 million) in the middle of 2001 to increase its facilities and production capacity to meet the increasing demand of its products. Its managing director Lee Byung Rai said the introduction of an additional line would increase its products of television and monitor glass panels and funnels by four million pieces a year. SCM, located in Senawang, Negeri Sembilan, produces 12 million pieces a year from its three production line, Lee told reporters after receiving ISO 1400 Environmental Management System certificate awarded by Sirim to SCM. According to Lee, Samsung Corning is the third largest manufacturer of these products and 65% of the glass panels and funnels were sold to SCM“s sister company Samsung Digital Display Business Internet Component Business SDI (M), the manufacturer of colour picture tubes. The rest were exported to Korea, India, Indonesia, Mexico, Vietnam and China. He said with the introduction of another line in 2001, SCM would employ an additional 400 staff. It has 1,200 employees and has been in operation for the last four years.
