SCHOTT North America officially inaugurated its new porous glass manufacturing process in Duryea, Pennsylvania at a ceremony on 26 August. As part of the event, SCHOTT recognized State Senator John Blake and State Representative Mike Carroll, whose support and efforts in securing state funding, combined with SCHOTT’s significant internal investment, served to expand SCHOTT’s global production capabilities and production technology knowledge base. The funding has facilitated the establishment of a manufacturing process for the production of a new product – CoralPor® porous glass, which is a high-performance glass used in the medical, aerospace, defence, and oil and gas industries. This new production development directly helps to sustain the international competitiveness of SCHOTT’s Luzerne County, Pennsylvania facility.
“Demand for porous glass continues to grow as the industry recognizes its benefits as a high-performance component material,” said Eric Urruti, Vice President of Research and Development and Business Development at SCHOTT North America. “The manufacturing equipment procured extends our production capabilities and enables us to better compete across global markets with a larger product portfolio. This collaborative effort was made possible by the strong relationships with the community and the hard work and efforts of State Senator Blake and State Representative Carroll.”
SCHOTT is an international technology group with 130 years of experience in the areas of specialty glass and materials and advanced technologies. The SCHOTT Group maintains close proximity to its customers with manufacturing and sales units in 35 countries.
