SDC Technologies Inc., a California-based global supplier of surface technologies, coatings and materials, announced 8 September 2004 that 100% of the company has been purchased by The Compass Group International LLC (The Compass Group) and the management team. SDC is a developer of proprietary coating systems for application to plastic and glass materials. SDC high performance coatings are used extensively in vision applications with end uses in the ophthalmic, sunglass and safety eyewear segments. No changes to SDC“s senior management team are planned as a part of the acquisition. “SDC is pleased to attract an investment partner of the caliber of The Compass Group. Their investment in SDC is an affirmation of our unique focus on adding real value to our customer“s products. Further, this investment reflects SDC“s history of sustained growth as well as our promising future and continuing strong position in our primary global markets,” said William A. Gregg, CEO and President of SDC. The Compass Group is a private investment firm with offices in Westport, Connecticut and Irvine, California. It provides equity capital to small and middle market companies in pursuit of growth opportunities, ownership changes and recapitalizations. “The Compass Group is very pleased to add SDC to our portfolio of companies,” said I. Joseph Massoud, President of Compass. “The key drivers for the investment included the company“s technology suite and, in particular, the quality of the management team,” Mr. Massoud added. “We foresee considerable upside potential for Compass as well as for SDC“s global customers, suppliers and employees, in partnering with this team.” SDC has provided manufacturing services, applications science and technology, research and development, customized coating formulations, and sales and support services through its operations in North America, Europe and Asia for nearly 20 years. The company was formerly a joint venture between US chemical manufacturer Dow Corning Corporation and UK-based Pilkington plc.
