SEMI Europe announced on 12 October 2009 the recipients of the of SEMI Europe Standards Award 2009. The award was bestowed in the presence of over 220 industry executives at the 3rd Executive Summit during SEMICON Europa 2009. Jan Rothe, GLOBALFOUNDRIES, received SEMI Europe Standards International Collaboration Award 2009 for providing outstanding contribution in international cooperation of the SEMI Standards Program. Jan Rothe has been very active since years in the Information & Control Technical Committee. In 2007, Jan volunteered to lead the International SEMI E84 Revision Taskforce within and collaborated successfully with European, Japanese and American standards volunteers. Jean-Marie Collard, Solvay, received SEMI Europe Standards Leadership Award 2009 for outstanding leadership in guiding the SEMI Standards Program. Collard turned the European Chemicals and Gases Standards Technical Committee into one of the most active. Wolfgang Sievert, retired from Honeywell, received SEMI Europe Standards Honor Award 2009 for his long-standing dedication to the advancement of SEMI Standards. Wolfgang Sievert has served admirably for almost two decades on the European Chemicals and Gases Standards Technical Committee which he originally created. As a member of the German DIN standardization body, he has been the link between the two organizations. SEMI“s International Standards program has provided for 36 years a mechanism for industry experts to develop key standards for equipment and materials used in semiconductor, MEMS, flat panel display and photovoltaic factories. Standards are required to achieve commonality, decrease manufacturing costs, increase reliability and productivity, reduce rework, and facilitate access to global markets. But there is more to Standards than the final written “specification“ or “guideline“, this is just the tip of the iceberg. The SEMI Standards development program allows participants to engage in valuable pre-competitive technology discussions and influence important industry trends to help companies stay competitive. The work conducted in developing these consensus specifications is vital to the health and development of our industries. SEMI International Standards is successful thanks to the commitment of several thousand volunteers from companies representing all sectors of the industry and from many regions of the world.
