Steklarna Hrastnik is focusing on developing sustainable practices within the industry, positioning themselves as a pioneer in developing new technologies across several segments. The company is noticing a growing trend of incorporating recycled glass in production processes, even in the highest-quality glass packaging segment.
Steklarna Hrastnik’s new hybrid furnace will enable the addition of recycled glass as a raw material, further reducing greenhouse gas emissions. Steklarna Hrastnik focus on producing ‘super flint’ glass packaging, integrating recycled content to enhance environmental sustainability and resource efficiency.
Utilizing post-consumer recycled (PCR) glass can save up to 300 kWh per tonnes of energy, lowering the energy demand for glass production. By incorporating up to 40 percent PCR, the company aims to reduce its direct GHG emissions by approximately 35 percent and overall cradle-to-gate emissions by 27 percent.
