Four of Taiwan’s panel makers have all reported stock prices below TWD 10 (USD 0.30) Chimei Innolux (CMI), AU Optronics (AUO), Chunghwa Picture Tubes (CPT), and Hannstar Display have also reported an accumulated market value of less than TWD 165 billion. Panel makers have improved their position over last year, when they reported accumulating losses TWD 150 billion, a record high for the companies. But this year it is expected that the companies will most likely be unable to make up for the losses due to less than expected growth in the world economy. Taiwan makers are also facing challenges due to the partnerships Korea-based panel makers have with Apple products for producing the iPhone and iPad.
Panel makers are readjusting their product portfolios and finding more niche markets to tackle such as the automobile industry.
AUO currently holds the highest market value of the four manufacturers, followed by CMI, Hannstar and CPT.
