Pearsons Glass, based in Liverpool, northwest England, has completed the takeover of London-based rival James Hetleys. The takeover makes Pearsons the largest supplier of coloured and decorative glass in the UK and gives it a southern base for further expansion. Pearsons“ managing director Ray Mawson welcomed the deal as a “significant development” for the firm, adding “We have a large processing development in Liverpool and deliver to London and the south west areas every week so we were looking for a position in this area. We have bought the competition and doubled our sales of stained glass.” Pearsons has invested steadily in its Liverpool base and its East Kilbride satellite in Scotland, which together employ 63 staff. The company has invested in the latest computerised technology for the production of mirrors, decorative designs and coloured work. Pearsons has a Liverpool studio to encourage the use of new materials and processes in the industry in conjunction with the North West Arts Board, the Glass National Training Organisation and universities.
