Vitro Architectural Glass is pleased to announce one of its highest-performing products, VacuMax™ Vacuum Insulating Glass (VIG), received a 2024 Best of Products Award from The Architect’s Newspaper (AN), in the Building Materials + Facades: Glass Category.
A jury of architects, designers, educators, curators, manufacturers and AN editors reviewed Best of Products Award submissions for innovation, aesthetics, performance and value.
In early 2024, Vitro made significant advancements to VacuMax™ VIG, enhancing its thermal performance and aesthetics. The latest iteration of VacuMax™ VIG is now specifically manufactured using Solarban® 70 solar-control, low-e glass by Vitro. This cutting-edge upgrade has led to a substantial 79 percent improvement in U-values, delivering world-leading R-values of up to R20, rivalling the performance of traditional walls. Furthermore, in addition to the notable thermal improvements, recent visual enhancements have improved appearance by eliminating vacuum ports and discreetly concealing “getters”.
Consisting of two fully tempered lites of glass separated by a non-leaded metal seal and a vacuum air space, a VacuMax™ VIG unit’s slim construction and light weight allow it to be typically incorporated into any traditional glazing system, window frame or curtain-wall application. It can often replace monolithic glazing in older buildings, making it ideal for retrofit projects.
Thanks to its innovative insulating technology, VacuMax™ VIG provides thermal insulation performance three to five times better than conventional insulating glass units and up to 20 times better than monolithic glass.
