Verallia Italia announces collaboration with EDP Energia Italia

The project will cover the installation of 5 photovoltaic systems

Verallia has entrusted EDP, one of the world leaders in the production of energy from renewable sources, with the construction of 5 photovoltaic systems for the supply of electricity at its plants in Gazzo Veronese (Verona), Dego (Savona), Carcare (Savona) , Villa Poma (Mantua) and Lonigo (Vicenza).

The construction of the 5 plants will be completed by 2023 with the first, that of Gazzo Veronese, which will go into production at the beginning of the year.

Overall, the project will cover a total area of approximately 142,000 square meters and will involve the installation of over 27,000 panels for 15 MWp of total installed power. This project is the most important one signed by EDP with a single customer nationwide for distributed solar generation, demonstrating the commitment of Verallia and EDP to the energy transition.

The project will allow Verallia to self-produce a portion of the electricity by increasing its environmental sustainability performance through a reduction of CO2 emissions into the atmosphere of approximately 8,000 tons per year (equal to the annual emissions of approximately 7,000 non-electric cars). .

“EDP acts as a partner of Italian companies for the energy transition, offering them tailor-made solutions to self-produce solar energy,” said Andrea Casartelli, Country Manager of EDP Energia Italia. “The collaboration with a major international player such as Verallia will allow us to increase the growth trend that we are recording in Italy and to help consolidate EDP’s global growth.”

Marco Ravasi, CEO of Verallia Italia, said, “Sustainability is at the centre of Verallia’s energy agenda. The agreement signed with EDP Energia Italia is strategic for us because it allows us to collaborate with one of the main operators at global in the sector of renewable energy solutions for companies, giving a strong impetus to our commitment to the energy transition, one of the pillars of our roadmap in order to reduce CO2 emissions by 46 percent by 2030.”

Since 2020, EDP Energia Italia has grown significantly on the Italian market. In the last 11 months, the insured capacity has grown 5 times compared to the whole of 2021. This growth, together with the solar capacity contracted by Enertel, a company acquired in 2021, brings EDP’s position in the distributed solar market in Italy to 70 MWp.
