Swiss packaging manufacturer Vetropack Holding AG will add a new furnace at its plant in Saint-Prex, canton of Vaud at a cost of CHF 34 million (USD 26.6 million/EUR 21.9 million), it was reported on 26 January 2006. Building work on the new furnace was scheduled to begin on 26 January 2006. The furnace will generate lower carbon dioxide emissions. Construction of the new furnace will require Vetropack to cease production at its plant for three months. During that period the workers will still be employed and orders will be fulfilled, plant director Jean-Pierre Cavin said. In order to guarantee supplies during the production halt, the company completed two new warehouses, with space for 37,000 pallets, equivalent to nearly 50 million bottles, Vetropack said on 18 January 2006.
