Vetrotech Saint-Gobain, one of the leading manufacturers of fire resistant glass products, is supplying Contraflam, a clear fire resistant safety glass that satisfies the highest demands of fire protection for the Statue of Liberty’s floors, doors and stairwells.
Vetrotech Saint-Gobain, based in Auburn, Washington, US, is supplying the largest and heaviest piece of glass it has ever manufactured for the Statue of Liberty renovation project.
Vetrotech Saint-Gobain, one of the leading manufacturers of fire resistant glass products, announced it has completed the first stage of the manufacturing process of the landmark’s oculus and is now shipping it to Vancouver, B.C., for fitting by Greenlight Glass Systems, a specialist in glass and glazing systems for interior and exterior architectural glazing applications.
The oculus is made of Contraflam, a clear fire resistant safety glass that satisfies the highest demands of fire protection.
The product will be used for the Statue’s floors, doors and stairwells. Once installed in mid-August, it will bring the Statue of Liberty in compliance with safety codes.
The Statue of Liberty is expected to re-open to the public in early September.
