Viridian Glass and Vistalite Otago have won the Supreme Award at the recent Window and Glass Association of New Zealand Awards for the Remarkables Ski Field Project.
Viridian Glass supplied and installed the glass for the striking new complex, which increased the capacity of guests from 2,500 to 3,500 people per day. The building features a restaurant and café, snow sport school and rental equipment facilities.
The project had a very tight time frame as it was essential that it opened for the 2015 ski season. The additional challenges of high winds, snow blizzards and -20 degree temperatures all made for a difficult install for the team (along with the fact that access to the site required glazing trucks to be towed up the 17km ski field road)
A 10m high glass frontage to the ski area provides customers with beautiful views, whilst the 18mm thick double glazed units keep them shielded from the cold outside. This is the perfect spot to sip hot chocolate whilst looking out on the Remarkables picturesque snowy peaks.
