Major Mexican glassmaking group Vitro has announced plans to invest US$ 15 million during 2001 to boost capacity at its Mexico City fibreglass plant by as much as 25%. Vitro Fibras, the Monterrey-based company“s fibreglass unit, has annual sales of US$ 70 million, equal to 3% of net group income in 1999. According to Vitro spokesman Juan Manuel De Nigris, extra production from the plant would be used to supply new contracts the company expects to sign in 2001. The expansion of the plant is scheduled for completion by the second quarter of 2001.
