The Window and Door Manufacturers Association (WDMA) has released the WDMA Window and Entry Door Industry 2014 U.S. Market Study. The report, which is based on industry input for product shipments in 2013 and was prepared, researched and analyzed by Metrostudy, a Hanley Wood company, and the Virginia Center for Housing Research (CHR) at Virginia Tech, shows overall residential window market growth of 10% for 2013, with a total estimate of 44.5 million units shipped. Growth is expected to continue at a slightly slower pace for 2014 and 2015, forecasting 9.1% and 8.3%, respectively. The residential entry door market showed modest growth of 5.3% for 2013, with 14.1 million units shipped. Growth in residential entry door shipments is similarly expected to continue at a slightly slower pace for 2014 and 2015, forecasting 5.1% and 4.8%, respectively, according to the report.
Shop-fabricated light commercial windows show significant growth over the past two years, with a 41% increase in 2012 and most recently a 29% increase for 2013. The report forecast for 2014 shows 23% growth over 2013 and with a steady but more moderate pace in the following years.
