After the disappointment of the refusal by the town council to open a new manufacturing plant on land between Cambridge and Guelph in mid-2018 Xinyi Canada are still searching for a location for an anticipated USD 450 million plant that would employ 400 workers. The company is said to be considering Amherstburg as a possible location for its Ontario production plant, along with Stratford, London and Welland as other possibilities.
Stephen MacKenzie, CEO of the Windsor-Essex Economic Development Corporation confirmed that WEEDC has met with the company and the Ontario Investment Office but can make no further comment at this time.
Xinyi supplies glass to over 100 countries for automotive, solar and construction purposes. The company was founded in 1988 and has facilities in Germany and Japan. The company’s North American headquarters are in Markham.
