It was announced in October 1995 that work on the 700-million-yuan, Shanghai Yaohua Pilkington Co. Ltd. SYP-2 float glass production line is close to completion and it is expected to boost the firm“s annual operating income by about 50%. A company official said that the line is scheduled to go into full operation in March 1996, following a three-month trial period. When fully operational, the line should have the capacity to produce 90,000 tonnes of SYP-2 float glass per year, the official said. He added that this would account for 50% of the company“s existing output of SYP float glass. Yaohua“s SYP-2 float glass is sold domestically and abroad. The sale price of SYP-2 glass is higher than that of common float glass, the official said, without giving details. He also said Yaohua“s board plans to build a similar production line if the first meets output forecasts, but added that potential fund-raising channels for the second line still had to be discussed.
