up of a new Float
glass furnace in its
historic Porta Marghera
plant in Venice

portant date for
Pilkington Italia,
the Venice community and
the entire Regione Veneto.
The first steps in the pro-
cedure for starting up the
new float glass furnace
were taken at a formal cer-

pected to produce its first
glass in November.
The new system is located
in the historic Pilkington
works in Porta Marghera,
Venice where glass was
first produced in far off
1932, and which saw the
introduction of the Pilking-
ton float glass technology
in 1987. Following a ma-
jor overhaul in 2002, work
continued until 2012 when
production was suspended.
The new plant will make
considerable use of exist-
ing facilities.
